Grande Style Pet Grooming Vaccination Recommendations

At Grande Style Grooming, we enforce strict vaccination and health requirements. The number of vaccination booster requirements for vaccinations can vary based upon the age of the pet and the types of vaccines needed are determined by your vet.  Vaccinations must be administered at least 48 hours prior to arrival under the guidance of a licensed veterinarian. However, we prefer vaccinations be administered 10 days before check-in. Written proof is required. You can find your pets vaccination records at the bottom of your most recent receipt from the vet. A rabies vaccination slip is given by your vet at the time that your pets rabies shot is given. We must have proof of rabies on file for all dogs over 16 weeks old.

I understand that some dogs (including one of my own) can no longer have any vaccines. In this case, just have your vet write a note.

Puppies must be current on their puppy vaccines

We accept puppies who are on schedule with their core vaccines, and have been cleared by the vet for grooming,

Vaccine Guidelines

CORE VACCINES

All dogs should have the following core vaccines:

  • Distemper
  • Adenovirus
  • Parvovirus
  • +/- Parainfluenza
  • Rabies (required for all dogs over 16 weeks old)

In addition to these, other vaccines are just as essential for some dogs based on their lifestyle.

  • Lyme disease
  • Bordetella
  • Canine influenza
  • Rattlesnake toxoid

Other health related guidelines

Skin conditions

We prefer not to handle pets with broken skin, bacterial, or fungal infections. We understand that some pets have chronic issues. We will make determinations on a case by case basis as whether to proceed with the groom or reschedule the pet when the skin is healthier.

Heart Conditions

We cannot accept pets with heart murmurs over grade 3.

Heart murmurs in dogs are graded on a scale of 1 to 6, with Grade 1 being the least severe and Grade 6 being the most severe. The grading system reflects the loudness of the murmur, and a higher grade generally indicates a more significant problem. Here's a more detailed breakdown of the grades:

  • Grade I: Murmur is barely audible, may only be heard in a quiet room, and requires careful listening.
  • Grade II: Murmur is easily heard with a stethoscope.
  • Grade III: Murmur is easily heard with a stethoscope, even on one side of the chest.
  • Grade IV: Murmur is loud and easily heard with a stethoscope on both sides of the chest.
  • Grade V: Murmur is very loud, and can be felt as a thrill (vibration) when placing a hand on the dog's chest.
  • Grade VI: Murmur is the loudest, can be heard with a stethoscope off the chest, and can be felt through the chest wall.

It's important to note that not all heart murmurs are serious. Innocent or physiologic murmurs, often found in puppies, are usually harmless and may disappear as the dog matures. However, all murmurs should be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine the underlying cause and whether treatment is necessary.

We cannot accept dogs in C or D of congestive heart failure.

Stages of Congestive Heart Failure in Dogs

The risk and progression of CHF in dogs is classified by stages similar to the way it is categorized for humans with CHF. The stages run from an initial risk for developing CHF but not showing any symptoms (Stage A) to severe symptoms (Stage D).

  • Stage A: Dogs with a higher risk for developing CHF but currently show no symptoms or structural changes to the heart. Dogs with a genetic risk include small breeds such as Miniature Poodles, Cocker Spaniels, Terrier breeds, and some larger dogs such as Great Danes or Dobermans.
  • Stage B: Dogs with a heart murmur (a “whooshing/swishing” sound) that a vet can hear but does not show any symptoms. A murmur indicates turbulent blood flow within the heart.
  • Stage B2: Dogs that show a structural change on an X-ray/radiograph or echocardiogram (a specialized ultrasound to diagnose the heart) but are without symptoms.
  • Stage C: In this stage, symptoms of heart disease are present. Dogs in this stage will have current or historic clinical signs of congestive heart failure, but still respond positively to medications and treatments such as supplemental oxygen.
  • Stage D: This stage is referred to as “end-stage” disease. In this stage, a dog will typically have severe symptoms of disease that unfortunately no longer respond to medications or other treatments.

Symptoms of Congestive Heart Failure in Dogs

Symptoms of CHF in dogs can be one or more of the following clinical signs:

  • Coughing, sometimes even coughing up foam
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Increased rate of breathing, even when resting
  • Inability to exercise
  • Fatigue, lethargy, and weakness
  • Cyanotic (blue) gums
  • Distended abdomen
  • Collapse or sudden death

Seek an emergency vet immediately if your dog is experiencing any signs of respiratory distress or trouble breathing. Your dog may need hospitalization and immediate care when experiencing moderate to severe signs of congestive heart failure.

Eye issues

We do not accept pets with eye ulcers, or other serious eye conditions unless completely cleared by the veterinarian.

Females in heat

We do not accept dogs in heat, as it causes undo stress on the boys in the salon. Please reschedule.

Senior dogs and health compromised dogs

We love the senior dogs, and will continue to offer the services they need as long as the pet can physically and mentally handle the rigors of the grooming process.

Dogs with serious health concerns will be accepted as long as they can physically handle the process without pain or difficulty. Some conditions, such as cancer can cause discomfort for the pet.

Diareah

We do not accept pets with a loose stool, if a pet starts to have a loose stool in the salon, we will send them home and reschedule when they are feeling better.

Nasal Discharge

We do not accept pets with a cloudy or green nasal discharge for any reason.
